This was based on my own photo and I have an eye for every variation in tone and can just translate what I see.

Thank you for commenting, I really appreciate it and if the technical side of my work helps, The best tool for smoothing the tones is the blending stick or tortillion. I usually start adding the tones with a 4h and blend this first layer. I will then repeat this for each grade of pencil, usually 2b,HB,2b,4b and 9b. By layering like this it really helps creat so many subtle grades.
